Los Angeles based Sad Girls Club has linked with retailer Six Hundred LA to create an editorial highlighting the look of West Coast, urban Latina subculture. Featuring model Nani Harrison and shot by Alexzander Rosa, the shoot was produced by Sad Girls Club founder, Maryana Martinez, featuring clothing now available at Six Hundred LA.
We asked Martinez to describe Sad Girls Club, and here is what Martinez wrote:
“We are a group of young ladies, Maryana, Sasha [Leon], Andrea [Maldes Vorlet], supporting other young creatives through a website that can be used as an outlet for personal expression. If not used as an outlet, We like to think others can feel included by relating to articles posted, art featured, and the aesthetic whole we share.
“Initially the purpose for starting this website was only to share our creative work and our personal experiences/thoughts. The biggest factor in bringing us together was that we all fight anxiety/depression and we face the normal struggles of a young adult who is figuring out who they are and what their purpose is.
“3 Mexican girls living up to the stereotype, we come off as very sassy dark humored Mexican girls, which very much is true! But it’s mostly our way of coping with reality and building a shield for our harsh truths. This site created unity and provided comfort for us, since we didn’t feel we fit in with other crowds. But that’s prolly just our paranoia and social anxiety deciding for us! Anyway…When we felt lonely or misunderstood we knew no matter what it was we were going through, by sharing to our group we would understand each other and pass zero judgement. And that concludes the sadgirlsclubs.”
Sounds amazing.
