Dior designer Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her first resort collection last night in the desert, specifically the Upper Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve. The collection was very inspired by Americana a la Ralph Lauren and the hues of the offerings matched the sand and stone backdrop.
While it’s admirable that Chiuri went out on a limb, the Western-themed offerings fell flat, especially during a political time when America at the moment feels like it’s hit a sort of psychological bottom. As such, it’s hard not to feel glum looking at offerings celebrating all things U.S.A.
On the upside, the feather looks were very cool, as were the garments that touched on the Western look without swimming around in it.
