Supreme doesn’t do a lot of collaborations with female-owned companies or artists so it’s noteworthy that’s it’s chosen to license the work of photographer Nan Goldin.
Born in Washington D.C. and now based in New York/Berlin, Goldin is know for documenting subversive communities, in particular New York’s drag queen community during the ’70s and ’80s.
Her best known work is The Ballad of Sexual Dependency, a collection of photographs themed on the rough and tumble street culture of Manhattan’s Bowery neighborhood between the years 1979 and 1986. Not an outsider looking in, Goldin was very much of the culture and describes the book as “the diary I let people read.”
Supreme’s collection makes use of Goldin’s “Misty and Jimmy Paulette,” “Kim in Rhinestones” and “Nan as a dominatrix” photographs. The images are printed on short-sleeve t-shirts, a hoodie, coach’s jacket and three skateboard decks.
Offerings will drop in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Los Angeles, London, Paris and online on March 29, 2018.
Check out all the looks below. Note that the t-shirts will be offered in multiple colors.
