Rihanna & Drake VMA Party Pics For Couple Obsessives

Drake & Director X

August 30, 2016. 1 Comment

Just like there are people who obsess and argue over the existence of the Illuminati, there are large swaths of the population who debate whether celebs are or aren’t in relationships. Rihanna and Drake as a “real” couple are a very hot topic at the moment, a convo that went into high gear during the MTV VMA event when Drake awarded Rihanna with the Michael Jackson vanguard award and she supposedly curved him, rebuffing his attempt to plant a kiss on her kips with a friend zone neck embrace (though of course the yes-they’re-a-couple camp has pushed back).

I think I just accidentally took the best video ever…. 😱 #VMAs @rihanna @Drake pic.twitter.com/sjOu8YnvPs

To add some fuel to the fire, we have some VMA after party pics shot at New York’s Up & Down club. According to press, “Rihanna made her grand entrance with Drake at her side.” Multiple images include the duo and if you are so inclined there is plenty of body language fodder contained within them to bolster your argument, whichever team you may be on. Similar to the “Faded” Illuminati debate, we’re too exhausted to have an opinion.

There were a TON of celebrities at the event (like maybe only celebs ’cause you know Up & Down’s door game is vicious), including Jaden Smith and Sarah Snyder, another couple people enjoy debating (for other reasons though). Also in attendance were Jeremy Scott, Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Lopez, Edward Enninful, Justine Skye, Puffy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Dave Chapelle, Kevin Spacey and Tyson Beckford and Amber Rose, whose boob game was on eleven.

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.

Make-up by Raisa Flowers, nails by Dawn Sterling, and photography by Luis Alberto Rodriguez.
