Flossing a growing level of talent and confidence, native New Yorker Princess Nokia has released a dual video for songs “Bart Simpson” and “Green Line.” Directed by Milah Libin and Destiny Frasqueri, the video pays homage to her years growing up in NYC with lyrics that speak to her trials, travails and successes as backed by the thumping (“Bart Simpson”) and vibe-y (“Green Line”) sound reflective of the decade she was born in.
Between the two videos sits an interlude shout out to the chilled camaraderie of women, a dynamic rarely reflected in every day media coverage. Similar to the music itself, it reflects Nokia’s clear understanding that the power in her message is as much her music and lyrics as it is a visual recasting of history as seen through the eyes of a young woman of color.
