Chanel showed its resort 2019 collection today, choosing to stay in Paris for a change rather than travel to a faraway city (we’ll always have Havana!). Staying put no doubt enabled designer Karl Lagerfeld to spend more money on the backdrop for the presentation, money he put to use to build an actual boat, which was parked inside the Grand Palaise.
The 330-foot ocean cruiser was named La Pausa, the same name as Coco Chanel’s summer home in the South of France. Following the presentation, guests were invited on board for the after party.
And indeed, the collection was very much themed on nautical looks, taking inspiration from wide-leg sailor pant silhouettes and chunky white sweaters. There were a total of 60 looks so not everything was anchor on maritime fashion. There were also perfect tweed suits, lots of berets and two shredded denim looks that were pilfered straight from the venerated and perpetually exploited House of Hood Couture.
Models included Gigi and Bella Hadid, Stella Maxwell and Adut Akech.
