Global sport giant Nike is planning to give approximately 7,000 employees salary increases following an internal review, according to an internal memo obtained by CNBC. The company also plans to change its annual bonus structure.
“With movement of internal talent, and the demands of a dynamic market, we analyze pay each year. This year, we have conducted a deeper analysis of all roles, at all levels globally,” the memo read.
Nike plans to give 10 percent of its employees a hike in salary to ensure equal compensation for the same job functions globally.
The review was spurred by the company’s decision in April 2017 to act on complaints from multiple women noting a lack of opportunities as well as a hostile work environment. Ultimately, over a dozen high level employees were let go because of issues reportedly related to poor leadership including cronyism.
Beginning in 2019, Nike also will make adjustments to its system for awarding bonuses, which will be calculated by company-wide performance instead of a system based on team and individual performances.
Nike has over 74,000 employees around the world.
