Los Angeles-based singer/cellist Kelsey Lu drops a new track and visual for the soulfully soaring “Due West,” a project that receives a notable cosign from Skrillex who has a surprise production credit. Spare (though less so than her Lu’s prior projects) and full of longing, the single very much has an art film soundtrack feel to it.
Should the look of the visual bring to mind Solange Knowles, that is no accident. Lu has contributed to Knowles’ musical projects and Solo’s frequent stylist, Mindy Le Brock, was tapped to co-direct (with Cara Stricker) and style the video. Labels in the video include Molly Goddard, Zhuxuan, Seen Users and Escada among others.
The stand-alone “Due West” follows “Shades of Blue: released in April 2018 and in 2016 her debut album, Church, recorded in a single take in a Brooklyn church.
