In advance of the official opening Virgil Abloh‘s “Figures of Speech” exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago on June 10, 2019, the 38-year-old designer held a private dinner at the museum to preview the event. Held on Thursday evening, Kanye West was included among the guests who were provided an early view of the exhibit.
West addressed the gathered group briefly and spoke about Abloh influence in his own life. Kanye said, “It really gives me optimism about the future of our existence to know there are people with the combination of extremely sound mind and high empathy in positions like this.
“Just for me it made me appreciate how special it was to have an individual that has, just even what you see tonight and so much more inside of him, next to me for ten years bouncing every idea from what t-shirt to buy in Japan to what girlfriend to pursue and marry. I remember when I was getting discouraged, Virgil said, ‘That should not affect your decision to proceed.'”
