Beaverton-based Nike is taking a page out of online subscription services with the launch of Nike Adventure Club, a platform targeting the fast-growing feet of children. Nike’s effort marks the first time a sneaker company has launched such a service.
As part of the program, Nike will ship either Nike or Converse shoes every 30, 60 or 90 days with monthly rental pricing of $20, $30 or $50 respectively.
Ranging in size from 4C-7Y, customers can choose from 100 different styles, from performance shoes for sports to casual everyday sneakers. Customers can choose to skip months and easily swap sneakers if they don’t fit or their child doesn’t like them.
Like many subscription programs, customers can purchase and keep the shoes they rent from Nike Adventure Club for an additional cost. In the case of Nike’s program, returned shoes are donated or recycled.
Adding some fun to the all-important unboxing experience, each box is customized with the child’s name. The packaging reflects a collaboration with KaBoom, a national nonprofit focused on giving kids of all backgrounds the opportunity to play. Nike and Kaboom’s Adventure Club boxes will also include stickers and booklets with ideas for fun outdoor activities.
Nike Adventure Club will fulfill its first subscriptions beginning August 12.
