Queens rapper Nicki Minaj sent the Barbz into a tailspin on Thursday (September 5, 2019) when seemingly out of nowhere she announced a plan to retire. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til the death of me. x in the box cuz aint nobody checking me. Love you for life.”
Turns out her plan to stop working was short lived. In the early hours of the following day, Minaj responded to one of her distraught fans on Twitter and officially withdrew her retirement. Minaj wrote, “I’m still right here. Still madly in love with you guys & you know that in hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be.”
In retrospect, the original “I quit” tweet didn’t seem well thought out given Minaj just brought on a new management team and surely has endless music and fashion contractual obligations. And in indeed, the same day she called off her retirement, she also announced a collaboration with Fendi.
