Ivy’s Tea Co. Delights With ‘Trap China’ Tea And Saucer Set

Ivy’s Tea Co. has announced plans for a capsule of “Trap China” teacup and saucers sets, a line extension that couldn’t be more appropriate given Ivy Tea’s stated appreciation for hip hop culture (check out the “Trap China” Spotify playlist here).

The sets create delight through an unlikely marriage joining the playfully poetic spirit of African American vernacular with the stuffy aesthetic of a traditional tea cup.

Thus far, Ivy’s Tea Co. has previewed a cup that is printed with New York favorite “Deadass” on the inside of a pink cup and saucer though the drop will include cups featuring additional phrases and designs.

Launched in 2016 by “Tea Bae Shanae,” Ivy’s Tea Co.’s main product is herbal teas, along with traditional black, green, red or white teas, all of which are hand blended. The company also carries a collection of organic, herb-infused honeys.

Commenting on the launch, Shanae wrote, “I started Ivy’s because I wanted to see more Black people in the tea industry. A lot of people love our teas and now they’ll have something special to use when they drink them..”

Priced from $55-$75 depending on the complexity of the design, the collection will launch on December 10, 2019 at 8:00 AM EST on ivystea.com.

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.

Make-up by Raisa Flowers, nails by Dawn Sterling, and photography by Luis Alberto Rodriguez.
