Bronx-born rapper Ice Spice received a long-awaited co-sign from Nicki Minaj this week, who on Monday (March 13, 2023) provided the 23-year-old with a much-coveted follow on Instagram and also uploaded her Dazed cover issue on Twitter with a caption reading “the people’s princess.”
OMG NICKI JUST FOLLOWED ME AGHHHHH!!!❤️

Ice Spice (real name Isis Gaston) hasn’t been shy about her affinity for Nicki Minaj, who she’s frequently mentioned as a fave in interviews. Proving she’s no newbie to Barbz fandom, Ice recently retweeted a 2020 Tweet in which she claimed Minaj had followed her on Instagram, followed by another in which she wrote, “practicing.”
While Minaj’s tweet was celebrated, her most ardent fans reacted with trepidation. Like a song on repeat, the Barbz are quick to point out multiple instances in which the Queens-born rapper has collaborated with or shouted out an upcoming female rapper only to have them turn on her or eventually align themselves with Cardi B, viewed as a sworn rival by the fandom.
Nicki Minaj’s recent tweet, while celebrated by many, also left some of her most devoted fans feeling apprehensive. The Barbz urged caution, pointing out previous instances where the Queens-born rapper had collaborated with or endorsed an up-and-coming female rapper, only to have them ultimately align with Cardi B, viewed as a sworn enemy.
