In a joint statement, parent company, Kering, and luxury label Yves Saint Laurent today confirmed designer Hedi Slimane would not continue with the label. Slimane’s contract with the brand ended yesterday. François-Henri Pinault, the CEO of Kering, issued a statement reading, “What Yves Saint Laurent has achieved over the past four years represents a unique chapter in the history of the house. I am very grateful to Hedi Slimane, and the whole Yves Saint Laurent team, for having set the path that the house has successfully embraced, and which will grant longevity to this legendary brand.”
The CEO of Yves Saint Laurent, Francesca Bellettini, added, “The direction that has been taken over the last four years represents an incredible foundation for the brand to build on for its continuous success.”
Designers Anthony Vaccarello and Jonathan Saunders have both been mentioned as potentially replacing Slimane.
Slimane came on as creative in March 2012 and took bold steps to reshape the house, moves that were viewed as controversial by some, though were embraced by many others. Slimane’s final show with the label took place during Paris Fashion Week in March.
