Photographer Amanda Lopez and stylist/jewelry designer Tanya Melendez (aka Nena Soulfy) have collaborated on a striking collection of photographs celebrating glamour and tradition.
Appropriately titled “Adornment,” the portrait series examines the ancient practice of braiding and other forms of hair styling and accessorizing.
“I’ve always been inspired by women from different cultures and historical backgrounds,” wrote Melendez in a press release. “Their natural, raw beauty displayed through their hairstyles, adornments and clothing conveying a message of strength and resilience. Because of this, I’ve been re-mixing and fusing traditional hairstyles and adornments into my creative work for the past six years.”
With a successful debut at Los Angeles gallery this past March, the exhibition travels to Lopez’s place of birth in Sacramento at the Sol Collective, an event that opens on July 15, 2017 and runs through August 7th.
