Solange Knowles recently has been appointed creative director for Puma. She issued the following (somewhat resume-ish sounding) statement on her Facebook page:
After years of art directing my own projects and visuals, including music videos, photo shoots, album artwork and web content among many others, I am extremely excited to announce that I am now able to apply my passion for all things design into my new roll as an Art Director for the iconic PUMA!!!
Her first project was themed around Puma’s “Disc” style. Solange tapped four designers to collaborate with Puma on capsule collection of the style called “Girls of Blaze.” She further used her cool people connects by choosing four friends to model the photoshoot for the styles: Saada Ahmed, Marjon, Carlos, Eva Tolken and Jill Martinelli Wimberly.
Puma has been in a tough spot as of late with much of the current fanfare around sneakers passing the brand by. As such, landing Solange has to be viewed as a move in the positive direction. Still, it will take a sustained effort to bring customers back around so hopefully Puma backs up the latest effort with enough resources to make it successful for the long haul.
