Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci and Nike will be collaborating on a collection that will hit Nike retail this spring (no detail on whether items will be sold at Givenchy), we learned this morning via Style. The logo will be as shown in the image above: a Nike swoosh plus the initials R.C. plus the star Givenchy is known for.
It’s not known if the collection will also include footwear, though for the article the quoted Nike spokesperson was the global footwear director, Ian Ginoza, who said, “We were impressed by his vision. I personally wear some of the t-shirts; that’s something that Riccardo does well, blurring the lines with street fashion.”
Given Kanye West’s messy falling out with Nike in December, fans of the rap artist will no doubt be wondering whether his very public friendship with Tisci had anything to do with the collaboration, whether an introduction was made or West put Tisci on Nike’s radar. Either is possible though Nike itself is very much embedded in street culture and all that is considered cool within it so it’s just as likely a representative of the brand already had a relationship with Tisci.
