Adidas last week had a launch event for the opening of a store featuring both Adidas and Originals offerings in the Fulton Mall, located in downtown Brooklyn. The event featured a special performance by Brooklyn rapper, Troy Ave, and a DJ-set by Clark Kent, setting the stage for a week-long roster of in-store events.
While still full of sneaker stores including Foot Locker and Finish Line, Fulton Mall once know for housing wall-to-wall urban fashion retailers has changed in recent years supplanted by national chains, many of which have opened outlet formats.
Nike is also making moves in Brooklyn with plans to open its first store on 2236 Norstrand Avenue in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood. Both brands are committed to growing their direct-to-consumer business so it makes sense that a borugh packed with dedicated sneaker enthusiasts would be on their radar. The only surprise is that the two brands haven’t made moves in Brooklyn sooner.
