FKA Twigs last week concluded her performance of “Congregata,” a concert series in New York City as hosted by the Red Bull Music Academy. Sold out on the three scheduled dates, the event was a showcase not only of Twigs talent as a performer but as an overall artist, showcasing her talent not only as a performer, but also a creative with an eye of lighting, staging and special effects. The performance celebrated life, love but also sensuality and sexuality in a very overt and gender fluid way that was refreshing and inspiring. In speaking to her inspiration, it’s noteworthy (and stands in contrast to Madonna’s quasi-appropriation of “Voguing,”) that Twigs has made a point to be generous with her credit to the masters of the genre.
