W magazine for its August issue has included in a 16-page fashion editorial a shoot featuring entirely black models, including Ajak Deng, Amilna Estevao, Anais Mali, Aya Jones, Binx Walton and Tami Williams. Using mostly stark outdoor shots as a backdrop, the fashion represents a wide range of the strongest looks for Autumn 2015 as directed by W‘s style director Edward Enninful. While fashion as of late has included more black models in editorials and on runways, the real difference maker is having black editors like Edward Enniful in positions of power because they generally possess a wider perspective on what constitutes beauty and don’t treat women of color as though they are a passing trend or a flavor of the month.
