Trap Queen rapper Fetty Wap aka Willie Maxwell has been tapped by Kanye West to model his Adidas Original‘s Yeezy Season 1 collection, a luxury-priced capsule that will launch in October at Adidas’s Consortium doors. The images are part of a photoshoot called “Gen Yeezy,” shot by Sloan Laurits and styled by Oliver Fussing that includes three other artists who haven’t been revealed yet.
All this cool and all, but it’s hard not to be borderline astounded by how much has changed in the past few years in terms of the industry’s viewpoint on Kanye, rap and streetwear. When Kanye made his first push into the fashion world, the fashion establishment was bitching NON STOP about Kanye trying to design or Kanye sitting in the front row of various fashion shows, such a travesty, oh-my-god, it’s all so terrible.
Then in 2013 Kanye declared rappers the “new rocks stars”and two years later it’s like the floodgates have OPENED and fashion is embracing rap, streetwear and especially Kanye. It’s cool because we’ve always been a booster but also kind of suspect, too. In conclusion, props upon props to Kanye for not reacting with bitterness to the two-faced nature of the industry. He won and has totally embraced the “humble in victor gracious in defeat” persona in response.
