So much of life’s cool stuff like Shea Serrano’s rap bookmarks are a bit wry, quietly clever and grounded in a insidery back story. Serrano’s bookmarks speak to a love of rap music so deep it inspired him to write The Rap Year Book, a New York Time‘s best seller chronicling the most important rap song each year starting with 1979. Before that, the Houston-based Serrano together with rapper Bun B published Bun B’s Rapper Coloring Book. So yes, Serrano is reeeally into rap, but also the notion of us all being humbly human. So a rapper, really? On a bookmark no less? But whhhhy?? But really why not.
Currently there is no online shop offering the bookmarks. Since October or so of last year every now and again, Serrano Tweets the availability of a new design (illustrations are by Arturo Torres) and provides interested followers with instructions on how to obtain one. Past subjects have included Big, Tupac and Drake, all of which are long sold out. Future is teed up currently, paired with his (or rather his grandmother’s) famous Gucci flip flops.
If you want to be in on the bookmarks plug, keep an eye on Serrano on Twitter. Check out Serrano’s book here.
