Pharrell Now Owns Half Of G-Star Raw

Pharrell Williams continues to make moves in the apparel world, announcing this morning that he is now co-owner of Dutch denim brand G-Star. Pharrell first link with the Dutch denim brand in 2014 when he collaborated on an eco-friendly line called Raw for the Oceans.

The news comes on the heels of his announcement that he had purchased back the 50 percent share of his brands, Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream, owned by Iconix Brand Group.

Cairo-born model Anok Yai, who is of South Sudanes

Cairo-born model Anok Yai, who is of South Sudanese descent, took to X this morning where she commented on The British Fashion Council awarding Alex Consani model of the year.

The Petaluma, California-born Consani is the first trans woman to win the award. In her award speech, Consani thanked the trans Black women who she said made it possible for her to win the award.

Addressing Consani and BFC, she wrote, "Alex, I love you and I’m so proud of you. British Fashion Council, thank you but I don’t want it anymore."

In a second post, she added, "If you have seen the effort that I’ve seen Alex put in; you would understand how proud I am of her. But Alex can be proud and I can be exhausted at the same time. It doesn’t take away how much love we have for each other."

This is Yai's second year being nominated for the award. She lost the award in 2023 to model Paloma Elsesser.

The 26-year-old Yai was famously discovered while attending a homecoming event at Howard University in 2017. She is the only Black model other than Naomi Campbell to open a Prada runway. This year she made waves in a bridal look on Vetements' spring 2025 runway.

Response to Yai's comments mainly have been supportive. Consani's selection comes in the midst of an increasingly treacherous environment for trans people, especially in the United States where Republicans, who swept all three branches of the government in the November election, made push back on trans rights a centerpiece of their campaigns.

Simone Rocha took home British Womenswear Designer of the Year. Nominees in the category included Erdem Moralıoğlu for Erdem, Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and Loewe, Maximilian Davis for Ferragamo and Roksanda Ilinčić for Roksanda.

Nike is shutting down RTFKT, a virtual sneaker company that was acquired in 2021 for around $1B (a figure that's been disputed as too high). Nike purchased the company at the height of crypto fever and in the years to follow the endeavor failed to generate more than niche levels of interest.

In a statement (on slide) posted on X, the company wrote, "Looking back we're incredibly proud of everything we've achieved together. From launching revolutionary products like Clone X with Takashi Murakami, to forging the first ever digital sneakers that became physical products, to empowering countless 3D artist and digital creators who found their voices through our platform--you, our community have been the driving force behind every innovation.

RTFKT announced W3 operations will shutter in January 2025.

Nike remains invested in the virtual space through its dotSwoosh and Fortnite endeavors.
