Rihanna kicked off her “ANTI World Tour” to a sold out house in Jacksonville, Florida, last night, running through a set that included her biggest hits, along with a good chunk of the songs from her latest album.
The look of the show was very chic and of the moment, rooted in an earthy color palette with looks that included two capes and a suit that eschewed the body conscious looks typically worn by female pop singers. As styled by longtime fashion collaborator, Mel Ottenberg, Rihanna wore a total of four costumes, starting with a hooded cream cape designed by Craig Green, which was removed to reveal a belted, grey blousy bodysuit designed by Adam Selman, paired with thigh-high boots by Guiseppe Zanotti (which look very much like the ones she designed in collaboration with Manolo Blahnik). Outfit No. 2 was a super sexy full body, lace up jumpsuit, also designed by Adam Selman, and paired with Manolo Blahnik boots. Her third costume was an Armani Privé-designed hooded black cape and see-through black pantsuit, detailed with crystals and paired with black Manolo Blahnik heels. She closed out the concert in a Y/Project over-sized taupe suit layered over an olive La Roxx leather lace up corset.
Beauty-wise, Rih kept it simple, sporting medium length black hair with loose waves throughout the event. She also went with minimal accessories, wearing big hoop earrings with the lace-up jumpsuit and a choker with the over-sized suit and that’s about it. Her dark lipstick and deep red nails provided the perfect color contrast to the earth tone theme of the show.
All told, the looks while highly stylish, revealed a more grown, sexy and womanly Rihanna, one who has lived and learned, very much in step with the sentiment conveyed by her latest album. Rihanna is nothing if not a style chameleon so you can bet she and her team will reveal more costumes as the tour rolls out.
