Minimalist athletic looks have had a chokehold on fashion trends for many a moon, but finally we are beginning to see the return to some femmier looks, as expressed in the form of Victorian-influenced ruffles. In addition to popping up on “it” runways including Gucci and Stella McCartney earlier this year, the look was also a fashion sub-plot in Beyoncé’s recent “Formation” and “Lemonade” videos, as styled by the talented Ms. Marni Senofonte, who described the look of latter video as “going back and forth between the antebellum and Victorian era.”
The look hasn’t completed flooded retail yet and yet we were able to find a nice representation of looks in a full range of prices. The key to styling this look is to offset the dressiness of the ruffles and lace with a piece that is decidedly laid back, so maybe a pair of faded ripped jeans or if it’s a dress, paired with a pair of kicks. Our fave is the robin egg blue Ronald Van Der Kemp blouse ($1,870), an exclusive to NetAPorter, as perfectly realized (above) by style blogger StyleHeroine in the image above.
