As usual happens when Kanye does anything, chatter about the Old English font went through the roof when the rapper featured it on his Life of Pablo souvenir gear. Before people found out Ye’s was designed by a legit street artist, Cali Thornhill Dewitt (recently profiled in depth on Vogue, there were a lot of accusations that Ye stole the font idea from everyone from streetwear label Born x Raised to gross fast food purveyors White Castle.
Shop Jeen creative director, Amelia Muqbel, as she is wont to do, slammed the door on the chatter with a take-the-piss-out mock up of an “Old Ass English” tee shirt, posted to her Twitter account. Her and Shop Jeen CEO, Erin Yogasundram, sling ideas back and forth like crazy on Twitter so we reached out to Muqbel to see if this was a legit item. As it turns out, it wasn’t supposed to be, but she received so many inquiries that she decided to put it in production.
There is no official launch date so the best plan if you want one is to either keep an eye on the ShopJeen store or follow Muqbel on Twitter at @Amooolia.
