While not at all new to the fashion game, Tyler the Creator took his game up a notch last night with a fashion extravaganza (watch the video below) that included a first-time Golf Wang runway presentation, a musical performance and an announcement of plans to launch a shoe line called Golf Le Fleur.
Following his performance, Tyler spoke to the crowd from the stage and said in part:
“I took a leap, I decided to take a leap and shit. Ya’ll know I did collabs with Vans and shit and all this stuff. I just realized black people don’t really own shit so I said, fuck royalty checks, Imma start my own shit and if it fails it fails. I decided to start my own shoe company and shit and see what the fuck happen. It’s Golf Le Fleur in fucking French and it means flower boy. I like flowers and that shit grows in the sun and it’s all this deep weird shit.”
As a lead up to the announcement, Tyler called up Kanye West, who handed over an envelope. Tyler had another audience member open the envelope and read the announcement.
Tyler then announced that audience members who paid for tickets would receive a free pair of the shoes.” He added that the shoes are still being worked on, but should launch by “August, September, October, November….” of this year.
Show notes: West attended with his sister-in-law Kendall Jenner, the ever-elusive Frank Ocean, Gucci Mane, Childish Gambino, Jhene Aiko, and Vince Staples. The Golf Wang collection is now available for pre-order on GolfWang.com and ships in 8-10 weeks.
