While Beyoncé of course is the indisputable star of The Formation world tour, her back-up dancers have been getting more than the usual amount of shine this time around. It’s in part because of their diverse good looks, but mainly because of the killer combo of the tour’s phenomenal fashion and choreography, all of which has been highlighted in a series of highly publicized events leading up to the tour, starting with the “Lemonade” video plus appearances at Super Bowl and the red carpet at the BET Awards.
Perhaps recognizing the interest, Beyoncé uploaded a video to her channel giving a behind the scenes look at the tour’s fashion as narrated by stylist Marni Senofonte, who brought all the looks together for “Lemonade” and also is the costume designer for the Formation tour.
In the video Senofonte explained how the “Victorian streetwear” look of “Lemonade” inspired the tour costumes, adding that her team asked a variety of designers to submit sketches and she and Beyoncé went through them and chose looks they liked and also gave feedback on desired modifications. The video also looked at how costumes subsequently were customized to accommodate both movement and different skin tones.
Watch the video below, along with a very recent video shot at a club in Milan, where the dancers were captured busting some moves on the dance floor, and finally, the dancers’ appearance on the BET Awards red carpet.
