Designed under the label Jahnkoy, Maria Kazakova’s striking Parsons MFA graduate collection for men is titled “Displaced,” and is made up from used garments, fast fashion pieces, designer knockoffs and found objects. One of the pieces was composed entirely of national flags.
Born in Siberia, Kazakova draws upon found materials and ready-made clothing as a platform to reflect her thoughts on global issues, including inequality and the oneness of humanity.
One of only 13 designers to show in Parson’s matriculating class of 2016, Lavagina showed a skill for layering a variety of color and material stories, making a strong statement that walked the line between streetwear and the avant-garde. Definitely she is a designer who will be on our radar.
