VFiles once again opened New York Fashion Week with a runway presentation made up of five up-and-coming designers: Allesandro Trincone, Ground Zero, Rushemy Botter, Sanchez Kane and Song Seoyoon.
As always, the staff at VFiles showed an eye for choosing designers tapping into nascent fashion trends, including the rise of suiting and more tailored details. And yes, while gender free dressing was still a big theme, the cuts of the garments veered toward what is viewed as traditionally more masculine, e.g. slacks, jackets and looser-cut garments that covered the body rather than expose it.
In a switch, VFiles is now numbering the runways rather designate then by season, which makes sense given that in some cases the designers are showing looks that have been presented before or aren’t set up to be produced specifically for a season that is six months out.
This season’s group was mentored by Naomi Campbell, Pat McGrath, Jerry Lorenzo and Young Thug, who provided the event with a big boost by wearing an Allesandro Trincone dress on the cover of his most recent album, No, My Name Is Jeffery. He also created a photo op during the show when he jumped up from his front row seat during the presentation to adjust a collar on on one of Rushemy Botter’s designs.
