HBO has officially announced plans for “Insecure,” a half-hour comedy series starring Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce. Queued up for eight episodes, Rae plays the sole black staffer of a Los Angeles community outreach organization. In the first episode, we’re introduced to her bestie, Molly (played by Orji) and her longtime boyfriend, Lawrence (Ellis).
The series is created and executive produced by Rae, who is the author of the web series and book titled, “The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl.” Similar to the her web series, the HBO series follows the personal and professional woes of a single black woman.
