Between her messy break up with Nick Young and a lackluster response to the lead single from her next album, Iggy Azalea‘s star has faded in the United States, and yet, she’s still widely admired in her homeland Australia, where she returned home earlier this year for a role as a judge on “The X Factor.”
As part of the coming home party, GQ Australia awarded Azalea its woman of the year award, accompanied by a cover on the magazine’s December issue.
In response to winning the award, Azalea dryly commented, “Thank you so much. I didn’t realize everyone was going to have such hilarious speeches and I didn’t prepare anything this week. I just want to give a big thank you to GQ for this award. I’ve won a lot of awards over the last few years, but this one means the absolute most to me because I can finally say I have an award winning vagina. Thank you.”
If you watch the video above, you will see the joke fell flat to say the least. GQ itself seemed to be a bit surprised by the crack, and wrote in response, “Well Iggy, you are one hundred per cent more than just a vagina, you are a talent and Australia [is] proud of you. You have taken on the virulent misogyny in the rap industry (‘women can’t rap!’) and that is a testament to your grit. And that makes you more of a human being than anyone who tries to reduce women to the worth of their genitals.”
