Update: Well that got ugly fast. It appears that Country Music Association has erased all references to Beyoncé and Dixie Chicks’ CMA appearance on its website and all social media accounts. The award show hasn’t offered any explanation, but there was some grumbling on Twitter last night from fans who thought she wasn’t an appropriate guest. It’s not clear why, but many people on Twitter attributed it to racism within the country music community. Within the genre, the Dixie Chicks are also viewed as controversial, going back to when they spoke out against the Iraq war.
Y’all I think she’s not performing. @CountryMusic deleted this tweet just minutes ago about her performance. #Beyonce #CMAs #CMAawards50 pic.twitter.com/YlEq1CUozN

As part of the Country Music Awards 50th anniversary, Beyoncé was invited to perform and invited the Dixie Chicks to join her. Backed by a full band, the crowd was on their feet for the ensemble performance of “Daddy’s Lessons,” from Beyoncé’s album Lemonade, a single about a young woman’s relationship with her father as written by Diana Gordon.
Rather than the countrified dance routine that was the part of The Formation World Tour, Beyoncé embraced the roll of the dazzling country music diva, commanding the stage in a Zuhair Murado mermaid gown featuring floral embroidery and puffed shoulders.
As part of the event, Beyoncé made a rehearsal version of the the song available to stream and download on Soundcloud.
