New York-based Hood by Air has linked with South African photographer Pieter Hugo on a ongoing project whose latest iteration is a caspsule collection of seven, extra-long tees featuring photo-screened images of men wearing Hood by Air fashion shot by Hugo.
The images are the result of a partnership that began when Hood by Air designer Shayne Oliver and Hugo headed to Jamaica in January to photograph some of the island’s gay and transgender members, in particular an exhiled gay community in Kingston often referred to as Gully Queens because they live in a gully (or drain) beneath the city. Shot wearing Hood by Air designs, the resultant photos were featured in a photo book titled PH & HBA, now available through Dashwood Books.
To bring the artful nature of the project full circle, the collection of tees was revealed at an Art Basel event in the Delano Hotel, which included a performance by Princess Nokia, followed by what sounds like an off-the-hinges pool party.
The capsule is now available at hoodbyair.com/phxhba
