It’s been a break out week for IMG-signed model Halima Aden, who made her fashion week debut on Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5 runway during New York Fashion Week. Since then, she’s been announced as a cover star for CR Fashion Book‘s tenth issue, and also has walked for Max Mara and Alberta Ferretti.
Haden first made a splash when she competed as a 19-year old for the title of Miss Minnesota in November 2016. While she didn’t take home the tiara, she finished in the top 15 and made history as the first contestant to wear a hijab and burkini in the history of the competition. “There is not one description for beauty, that in fact it has different faces, different stories, different backgrounds and it’s okay to embrace all of those,” said Aden in an interview with CBS Minnesota in November.
A Muslim Somalian who was born in an Kenyan refugee camp, she moved to the United States when she was six-years old, and grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
