One thing that was clear about Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 5 presentation (all images here) at Pier 59 yesterday (February 15, 2019) is that West was intent on exerting more control over images documenting the event. In addition to signs asking attendees not to photograph or record the presentation, credentialed photographers (including ours) were not allowed the normal level of backstage show access. Restrictions on outside photography included the turning away of invited guests who showed up carrying cameras with removable lenses.
The ability to take pictures outside of the event was also restricted and enforced by regular Pier security, along with the New York police. Photographers with credentials were kept in a corral, which was located a fair distance from the entry to the event. Not that it mattered because many of the bigger name celebrities entered the venue through a back entrance, an area completely closed off to press.
Challenges aside, our photographer Mauricio Jorquera caught some pretty great images of the event.
