Today Belgian designer Raf Simons made his runway debut with Calvin Klein, showing a collection of men’s and women’s fashion for fall 2017 that managed to live up to the massive amount of hype leading up to the show. Staying true to the brand’s minimalist, all-American roots, Simons upgraded the label through his gift for adding artful touches and details that add depth and weight to the brand.
The title of the show “Parade,” was a reference to the United States or more aptly, Americana, and notes for the show added, “It is a coming together of different characters and different individuals, just like America itself.”
Quietly, Simons made his little statements on the current state of affairs in America, including narrative from “The Virgin Suicides” and opening up the finale with Pat Metheney Group and David Bowie’s “This Is not America.”
The coolest pieces were the tops with sheer bodies and puffy knit sleeves, the saran wrap raincoats (Carine Roitfeld’s fave look), the quilt-lined and detailed coats and the underboob crop tops, but for those who find those items too advanced, there were simply immaculate double-breasted suits and other simply classic wardrobe items capable of lasting a lifetime.
Prominent attendees includes Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington, along with Sofia Coppola. Brook Shields, Lauren Hutton, A$AP Rocky and Stranger Things actress, Millie Bobby Brown, who took over the brand’s Snapchat prior to the show, and was featured in Calvin Klein by Appointment campaign images.
