Cult fave Netflix series “Stranger Things” debuted a much-awaited preview of its second season last night during the Super Bowl, and while it was just 37 seconds long, it gave viewers a ton to mull between now and when the first episode goes live on October 31, 2017.
It’s already known the second season will include nine episodes and will take place a year after Will Byers’ return. Viewers are warned in the caption of the preview video, “A year after Will’s return, everything seems back to normal… but a darkness lurks just beneath the surface, threatening all of Hawkins.”
Commenting on the show, co-creator Matt Duffer has said, “Season one actually takes place over the course of six or seven days. It’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical season two is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.”
Adding to the fun of the preview, the show’s Twitter account engaged with fans tweeting about the show with its trademark upside-down tweets (right-sided below), repeatedly warning, “A storm is coming,” and “Stay in this Halloween.”
For those who are looking to jump into the series in season two, the science fiction/horror series takes place in 1983 in Hawkins, a small town in Indiana. Very much an homage to all things ’80s, in season one, 12-year old Will goes missing and his friends and mother, Joyce Byers (played by Winona Ryder), spend most of the season’s eight episodes trying to find him. Along the way, they encounter top-secret government experiments, scary supernatural entities and an oddball girl named Eleven.
