Amidst the tumult, the landing of Frank Ocean’s single “Chanel” at the end of a long week was like the arrival of an unanticipated and yet smooth DM from a long held crush. An ode to keeping a fluid mindset, Ocean’s lyrics speak of seeing both sides “like Chanel,” (Get it? two Cs aka “sees” like the Chanel logo?) that shouted out a man of his who is pretty, as well as one who’s “straight acting,” while also reserving the right to check in with his hip hop roots through poetic and yet still braggadocio mentions of snug (aka fat) pockets filled with cash, expensive collaborative bags, trips to Japan and diamonds.
And we see you, Frank, stuntin’ in the single art work in a pair of Gucci Ace kicks.
Ocean debuted the single on March 10, 2017, during the second episode of “blonded,” his Beats 1 Radio show. He looped the song for an hour and at some point dropped in a remix of “Chanel” featuring A$AP Rocky.
