New York-based label Jahnkoy‘s fall 2017 collection is beautifully captured in an editorial shot for Nataal magazine by Jonathan Kope. Modeled by Oyisa Mgoloza and photographed in South Africa, the shoot took place specifically on the streets of Delft, a low-income township on the outskirts of Cape Town.
The Siberian-born designer Maria Kazakova is all about making statements about global community and among the fall offerings are garments that specifically speak to the impact of the Western world exporting cheap clothing to Africa so the shoot in a struggling South African community feels especially apt.
In February, Jahknoy was one of 21 labels announced as on the short list for LVMH’s Prize for Young Fashion Designers for 2017. A Parsons graduate, the designer is known for creating looks from used garments, fast fashion pieces, designer knockoffs and found objects.
