Off-White designer Virgil Abloh and Jennifer Fisher have made an earring together that makes a statement about global warming, a theme that was a part of Abloh’s fall 2017 collection.
Composed of a single wire, the earring design was inspired by the coils found on electric stoves, a reminder of both the world’s rising temperature, but also inefficiency.
“I wanted to express something wasteful, like the radiant heat electrical stove,” said Fisher in an interview with WWD.
Abloh and Fischer found they shared a view on the world when they met at a party in New York. “We were at a dinner party at [Fivestory owner] Claire Distenfeld’s house together and just fostered a mutual respect and friendship. I love what he does, that he studied architecture and has that background and we have certain things in common,” Fisher explained
Priced at $275 for a single earring and $535 for a pair, the coil earrings are available in 14-karat, yellow-gold-plated brass or silver-plated brass with a rhodium finish.
