Remy Ma, born Reminisce Mackie, visited Tracy Clayton and Heben Nigatu of BuzzFeed’s “Another Round” podcast Tuesday evening, and chatted in front of a live audience for over an hour. Ma came across as friendly and charismatic and revealed her ability to tell compelling stories isn’t limited to rapping.
In the exchange the Bronx-born Remy discussed how she entered in to the world of rap at the age of 17, and her decision to appear on “Love & Hip Hop New York” as a way to rehabilitate her reputation after spending over six years in prison.
Remy discussed the prison system at length (30:00), and said that jail is worse for women because unlike men they are abandoned by their friends and families during their sentences. “It’s like tumbleweeds blowing through the visiting floor. There’s no one there,” said Remy, who added that there were women she did time with that hadn’t seen their children in ten years. Remy also said women are sentenced for more time because they’re supposed to be nurturers.
On her rap career, Remy said she used her time in prison to better understand the rap business so when she left prison she had a was focused on being an independent artist and owning all of her music.
After the host broke down what she believe led to the beef (49:00), Ma began to discuss her beef with Nicki Minaj. Repeating what she said on “The Wendy Williams Show,” Remy said the beef was based on Minaj’s lack of support behind the scenes. Remy said she views the beef as over and doesn’t care whether Minaj responds or not.
The subject of her ectopic pregnancy was also discussed and Remy pointed out that politicians who claim to be pro-life should support the cost of IVF, which insurance companies do not cover.
She finished the event with a question and answer session with the audience.
