Bay area r&b artist Kehlani made her debut appearance at Coachella on Saturday evening (April 16, 2017) during the festival’s first weekend of events. While it was a pretty quiet weekend overall for musicians making political statements, Kehlani chose to voice her opinion with a pair of white overalls, customized with the phrase “Find Our Girls,” a reference to the lack of coverage by the media on black women who have gone missing.
Commenting on the event, Kehlani wrote on Instagram, “Coachella weekend [one] was amazing this was on my bucket list, and with a really epic slot. Thank you guys you showed OUT, lost my chellaginity the right way.”
She performed just over 40 minutes and after kicking things off with “I Wanna Be,” was forced to take a break due to sound issues. She resumed with a heartfelt performance of her big hit “Distraction,” and from there on it was smooth sailing.
Kehlani returns to Coachella next weekend, performing on Sunday, April, 23rd. See more info on Kehlani’s tour dates here.
