Adidas and Kith have collaborated on multiple occasions, a relationship formed long before Kith when the brand/store’s founder, Ronnie Fieg, was still working at David Z. The announcement of the latest design partnership stands out because it’s a performance soccer collection, including not just shorts, jerseys and sneakers, but also cleats and balls.
“We wanted to do something Adidas had never done before, and find our niche in the market,” said Fieg in an interview with Vogue. “Usually, in our [streetwear] market, we’re associated with basketball. But we’re seeing a shift now, with a lot more kids playing soccer today than a few years ago. And not only that, but these are stylish kids. They’re sports customers but they also live and breathe the lifestyle of Kith.”
The idea for the collection was inspired by DJ and soccer player Florencia Galarza, who’s the captain of Kith’s New York club soccer team, the Cobras. She was also featured in the collection’s official lookbook. In addition to the home and away uniforms shown in the lookbook, the collection also includes a set of uniforms for Kith’s newly-formed, Miami-based Flamingos soccer club,
This collection will release on June 2, 2017, no details yet on pricing or where the collection will be sold. One has to assume Kith stores and kith.com will carry offerings.
