Actress Chloë Sevigny has long been known for her love of vintage so it makes sense that vintage fashion reseller Vestiaire Collection would link with her on a vintage-themed editorial. As we mentioned recently, vintage right now is all about the ’90s, in particular the major luxury labels of the era.
Not surprisingly, Sevigny chooses a more artful angle, wearing labels including Thierry Mugler, Maison Martin Margiela, Courreges, Vivienne Westwood, Atelier Versace and Yves Saint Laurent.
In the exchange, Sevingny theorizes on why there is a current lust for ’90s-era vintage. “It was the last time there was a real movement in fashion and film and people are harkening back to that and a sense of authenticity that has been disappearing. People were bolder then and not as afraid to be un-PC or make statements or do things that were more risky,” she said, adding that it’s also somewhat cyclical. “Looking back, as a teenager I was obsessed with the 70s. It was everything to me. The fashion of Saint Laurent, the style of Debbie Harry and the Ramones, that was all I wanted. I can imagine that kids born in the early 90s now maybe have that association because of a time they were close to but not really a part of.”
