Through a “Top 5” mixtape and a series of four videos, rising talent and Bronx-based rapper Maliibu Miitch pays homage to some of the game’s female greats who paved the way in hip-hop during the ’90s and 00s. If she looks familiar, you might recognize her face from a clip (below) that went viral, showing her filming one of her videos on the subway.
The Petty Poppin Hood Booger jumped on beats”Gotta Get You Home” by Foxy Brown, “Crush On You” by Lil Kim, “Doo Wop” by Lauryn Hill, and “Who’s That Girl” by Eve. While the beats sound the same, Miitch provides timely updates, rapping in Hill’s single, “The second verse is dedicated to the men obsessed that’s with their ‘gram comments and DMs…” The “Top 5” mixtape includes the aforementioned songs plus “Supa Dupa Flee,” inspired by Missy Elliott’s “Supa Fly.”
For one more oldie but goodie, Miitch also jumps on King Combs’ “Paid in Full Cypher,” a song featuring Eric B. and Rakim’s “Paid in Full” beat, an intriguing choice given the same beat was used by Tupac on “Hit ‘Em Up” to throw shots at rapper B.I.G. and King’s father, Sean Combs.
