Nike has revealed a campaign with Vogue dancer Leiomy Maldonado, as part of its Be True campaign efforts, which are created in part as a show of support to the LGBT community.
Maldonado (also known as Wonder Woman and Amazon Mother Leiomy of Voguing) was the first trans-woman to appear on MTV‘s “America’s Best Dance” crew in 2009. With appearances in videos with Willow Smith and Icona Pop, the Bronx native takes us higher though dance with a campaign rooted in what unites us.
Written and directed by Daisy Zhao, the short is voiced by Precious Angel Ramirez, who states, “Hey Lei, What did you do to make a mark on this world? What mountains did you climb? Which angels gave you their wings? Which skies have you flown? When you reached the heavens, who was there to catch when you fell? And did they tell you that you saved them too, like you saved me? That they are mending their wings and holding them up to the sun, just to step back and watch you fly, So go ‘head Lei..fly.”
Other dancers featured in the video include Tiffany Theartist, Monsièur Pariè, Karma Styles, Albert Taveras, Karin Tatsuoka, Marshay Love, Chauncey Dominique and Luz Romano.
