English singer/songwriter Dua Lipa has released a visual for “New Rules,” an infectious pop song with a message about dealing with problematic exes from her self-named, 12-track album released on June 5, 2017.
Lipa’s rules are simple:
One, don’t pick up the phone
You know he’s only calling ’cause he’s drunk and alone
Two, don’t let him in
You’ll have to kick him out again
Three, don’t be his friend
You know you’re gonna wake up in his bed in the morning
And if you’re under him, you ain’t getting over him.
Shot at a Miami hotel, the visual reinforces the message, showing Lipa benefiting from supportive female friends that help keep her from falling off her path.
Commenting on making of the video, Lipa said, “I had such an amazing time making this video for “New Rules” in Miami. I got to work with director, Henry Scholfield for the second time, we did the “Lost in Your Light” video together and it was really exciting to bring that team back and bounce around ideas, and get Henry to put all the crazy ideas I had into reality. It’s extra special because of the bad-ass cast and the amazing dancers.”
In the fall, Lipa will be touring in support of Bruno Mars.
