Copenhagen-based designer Astrid Andersen and U.K. singer M.I.A. aka Mathangi Arulpragasam have announced plans to launch a collaborative clothing collection. Themed on an orange and black color story that riffs off of Anderson’s hip-hop-inspired spring 2017 line, the collection includes anoraks, track pants, and t-shirts, priced from $70-$160. The black anorak is made from recycled plastic and is produced by Parley for the Oceans, a company that also creates textiles for Adidas and Stella McCartney.
Andersen added women’s to offerings for her fall 2017 collection and told Vogue that M.I.A. has always been an inspiration for her designs. “I’ve been a fan of M.I.A. for a long time,” said Andersen before showing her spring 2018 show during Copenhagen Fashion Week. “She was the benchmark for cool women who would wear my new collection so when she called me, I was mega-excited.”
In an Instagram video, M.I.A. noted the collection was in part a celebration of the ten-year anniversary of her album Kala, released on August 8, 2010.
The collection will drop on August 9, 2017 on M.I.A.’s new ecommerce site, miauk.com, and on astridandersen.com.
