Kith founder Ronnie Fieg sat with Complex and told the tale of his Queens come up, starting with his days working for family member David Zaken at New York-based shoe chain David Z.
In the exchange, Fieg talked about his early days in the ’90s working at David Z’s 8th Street store, viewed at the time as a shopping hot spot for the City’s burgeoning rap scene.
Fieg also spoke about his first collaborative efforts with Asics and how the effort was initially met with resistance by Zaken. He also explained his decision to open his own store after working with David Z for 15 years.
He also discussed opening Kith and receiving early support from Liberty Fairs co-owner Sam Ben-Avraham, who initially wanted Fieg to manage footwear at his then store Atrium.
The interview comes in advance of the launch of Kith Sport, which will make its runway debut on September 7, 2017 during New York Fashion Week.
